A gum evaluation looks closely at the health of the tissue and bone that support your teeth. It's a standard part of good dental care, helping to catch early signs of gum disease before they progress and cause more serious problems. Dr. Adam Salm, DMD, performs gum evaluations as part of routine and periodic exams at Salm Dental in New York.

What the Evaluation Covers

• Gum Tissue Check — Dr. Salm looks for redness, swelling, bleeding, or recession that can signal gum disease.
• Bone Support Review — Digital X-rays give a clear picture of the bone level around each tooth, and Overjet AI X-Ray Analysis provides a second review of the same images.
• Visual Documentation — The intraoral camera lets you see the same areas Dr. Salm is examining, right on the exam room screen.

When Further Treatment May Follow

If an evaluation finds early or established gum disease, Dr. Salm can discuss next steps directly with you. Depending on what's found, this might include:

• Scaling & Root Planing — A deeper cleaning below the gumline to remove buildup contributing to gum disease.
• Periodontal Maintenance — Ongoing care visits to help keep gum disease under control.
